VIOLET

As the sound designer for the Aliso Niguel Theatre Company's production of Violet, my main task was to find sound effects to provide a more immersive experience.  I would go though a multitude of different sounds to find the correct one, then edit them further to fit the scene more appropriately.  The live band was on stage for the performance and the quieter instruments' microphones needed to be set up.  Perhaps the biggest task was to put the audio from the actors' body mics into a "radio" which was actually a speaker.  The speaker was made to look like a radio that I then simply used as an additional output for the audio.

THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT TIME

This show was one of the most sound effect heavy shows I've been a part of.  There was upward of fifty sound effects in the cue list.  The script also called for prerecorded voices.  Once all voices were recorded they were taken and put into three sets of voices that were also overlapping at times.  Aliso Niguel Theatre Company's production of Curious  was in a black box style theater.  This was set up on a proscenium stage, which meant the sound system was unusable.  A new temporary system needed to be put in place.  Since the audience was close enough to the actors, mics were not necessary.  There was only one mic used on an actor, this was simply to put an effect on the actor's voice during curtain scenes during the play.

PIPPIN

Pippin was my fist show as a designer.  As sound designer most of the work was during the show.  As there were only three sound effects in the production it was not a very heavy sound effect show.  However the large cast and abundance of lines in the first two scenes meant all twenty-three of the available body mics were used in the first five minutes of the performance.  For the production there was a live band. The band was on a raised moving platform on stage.  In order to mic the different instruments the microphones were wired down the back leg of the platform and watched by a crew member during the show.

Forget Me Not

Forget Me Not was an Actors' Repertory show. It was a simple show that only needed a few sound effects. However the actors were sometimes quiet, I had set up both floor and choir mics that I used to get the most out of the actors that might not have been as loud as others.

Alice in Wonderland and what we found there

For the production of Alice in Wonderland, a student written play, I was on lights crew.  I hung lights throughout the theater and provided the best lighting possible for the show.  I operated the light board when needed but during the show I was back stage and helped change the set during intermission.

Oliver

Oliver is a classic story of a little boy looking for  place to call home.  Being on lights crew it wasn't the most intense lighting play but the set made a few things difficult.  There was a twelve-foot bridge that moved around the stage for different scenes.  Because one of the main actors was significantly tall. The lights needed to be overhung in the grid to provide enough safe space for the actor.  During the performance I was on house right spot light, lighting up the actors on stage that were either the main focus or singing.

I have worked many events at my theater providing both lights and sound support for different event.  Some events include a Dance performance or a Band concert.
